All about Sr22 Insurance
The Sr22 form is a state mandated filing most often required when a
driver has had their license suspended. It also referred to as
"proof of financial responsibility".
Not all insurance companies are willing to file the state sr22. It
requires additional administrative steps for the company and the agents
that service the policy.
What does an SR22 do?
It simply proves to the state that you have met the minimum liability
insurance requirements as set forth by that state's Department of Motor
Vehicles. If you have an sr22 insurance policy, the state will
also be informed by that insurance company if you allow the policy to
expire. This type of notification is not something that the
insurance company enjoys, but is required by the state.
How much does an SR-22 cost?
SR22 prices are often less than most people think. The insurance
premium will be based upon several factors including; age, gender,
marital status, vehicle, and driving record. Usually a small
surcharge will be added for the SR22 filing itself. This charge
could be between $15 and $50. An Sr22 can also be purchased without a
vehicle.
What is a non-owners insurance policy?
The non-owners policy can provide the SR22 filing for those that do not
own or have regular access to a vehicle. There isn't a great deal
of coverage with this type of policy, but it will help with license
reinstatement requirements. If you
purchase a non-owner sr22 policy, be careful that you don't drive
any vehicles that are uninsured.
